BYOG – The Legacy

BYOG (Build Your Own Game) is India’s longest-running and most iconic game jam — a 15-year tradition that brings together developers, artists, designers, writers, and creators from across the country for an intense creative sprint. Established in 2010 by GameDev India, BYOG has grown into a launchpad for new talent, bold ideas, and experimental prototypes.

Over the years, thousands of jammers have participated, past winners have gone on to build award-winning games and studios, and the community continues to push the boundaries of what Indian game development can be.

In 2025, BYOG hit a new milestone with more than 1000 participants and 200+ games submitted, making it the biggest edition in its history.

More than just a jam, BYOG is a celebration of creativity, collaboration, and the spirit of making games. Participants get the chance to build a playable prototype from scratch, receive feedback from veteran industry judges, compete for a sizeable prize pool, and showcase their work to a national audience of peers, studios, and recruiters.

Organized by GameDev India — the country’s oldest and largest volunteer-driven game creator community — BYOG sits at the heart of India’s gamedev ecosystem. From mentorship to meetups, from Discord discussions to IGDC showcases, BYOG is where careers are sparked, friendships are formed, and India’s next generation of game makers take their first big leap.
